About the Film
No Dogs or Italians Allowed is an animated documentary by French-Italian filmmaker Alain Ughetto, tracing the journey of his own family from the Piedmont region of Italy to France in the early twentieth century. Using stop-motion clay figures and archival materials, Ughetto reconstructs the lives of Italian migrants who crossed the Alps seeking work and a future — only to be met with signs that read "No Dogs or Italians Allowed."
The film won the Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and has been celebrated internationally for its intimate, handcrafted approach to family history and the universal experience of migration.
